I have made a fanfic archive!
I'd been thinking of putting my fanfics up on my website for a while, but I'd kept putting it off, because "ehhhh, they're already on AO3, I have my fics on my Google Drive, it's not a huge deal."
Well, I blinked and all the sudden, Dreamwidth has to block all Mississippi IPs from accessing the site. And the itch.io situation...happened. Online censorship and related bullshit is having a moment...and AO3 is one horny website, and it doesn't invade users' privacy in the name of age verification, and doesn't seem likely to start.
Oh no. Oh no!
So, I finally put my fics up on my brand new writing page! It's bare-bones for now (thanks in part to the fact that I have two [2] fics I wanted to archive), but I really just wanted to get it up. If I waited to launch it until it was perfect, I'd probably put it off for way too long. Better to be imperfect and out there, considering I can update it whenever!
If you'd like to start your own fic archive, check out "How To Make Your Own Fanfiction Archive, In Just 10 Easy Steps" by Melannen. It'll walk you through the process of making a super-simple archive, for free!
Happy Banned Books Week, y'all!

Thoughts
Good idea.

AO3 use to have a public option so everyone could see fanworks, but last year they did a hard reset and required everyone to sign the new user agreement. Without that, all people see is the demand to sign the thing -- and that somehow corrupted previously archived copies of fanworks that are supposed to be immutable. Maddening. People have complained about other problems accessing the site, but I not longer use it so I'm not current on those details.
And YouTube, where almost ALL of the fanvids are, has done two heinous things. 1) It's trying to divine user age from viewing habits and will lock out people it imagines are minors. 2) It's using AI to edit creator content without notifying or getting permission from anyone. O_O
So you're absolutely right about the problems increasing.

Go you!

Done is better than perfect.
Re: Thoughts
I knew there was a huge pop-up whenever you access AO3 without an account, but I'm so experienced in the art of checking "I have read the so-and-so" without actually reading it, that I didn't think about how many problems that would cause for people who do value knowing what rules they're meant to be following.
And oh god, the YouTube thing. I'm so annoyed by their latest bullshit that I'm trying to avoid using it when I can, though properly boycotting it is nearly impossible for me, as someone whose latest obsession is object shows, a genre of indie animation that exists nearly entirely on YouTube. (As you can imagine, watching a lot of animated videos with a fandom that skews young gives me a vested interest in doing something about this bullshit!) I use Invidious whenever I can, and my casual YouTube browsing has dropped a lot. Hopefully I have at least contributed to their numbers going down.
Hadn't heard about the AI thing. Jesus.

Yay! :D

I've heard people say that they don't see it but didn't sign the new user agreement. However, I believe that they simply signing it without even realizing they did so -- that most people have a habit of just clicking to make boxes go away.

Same here, which is sad, because I find it relaxing to watch videos about crafts, terrarium builds, gardening, bushcraft, paleontology, etc. I'm hoping that if I cut back, they're less likely to block me entirely. I certainly won't watch anything animated again.

Huh, interesting. My partner Doug is a huge animation fan.

So of course, if someone is trying to make content free of AI contamination, YouTube just screwed their reputation. As with Google, there's also the problem of wasting vast amounts of water and energy, which some people would prefer not to do.
